Remedies for Gout

When it comes to treating gout, there are quite a few remedies for gout you can use. Between prescription drugs such as Allopurinol or Colchicine, or over the counter medications such as Ibuprofen, you can also use natural gout remedies.

Some of these natural remedies for gout would include using cherries for gout, or most fruits for that matter due to their potassium and vitamin C content. Potassium and vitamin C have been found in studies to help lower uric acid levels.

Other options you can use to treat this debilitating disease are using herbal gout remedies. These would include such remedies as celery seed and its extract. Other available treatments would include a variety of home remedies for gout such as ice, baking soda, and preventative measures including losing weight.

Which method should you consider when choosing how to deal with this medical problem? That is primarily up to you and your physician and which method you are comfortable with. I've used all of these methods to varying degrees of success.

One concern with those who have this condition is they usually only try to fix the symptoms of gout and then go back to normal behavior when they are not suffering a gout attack. In the end, this will only lead to more problems down the road.

Ultimately, the best gout treatments methods are those that are even when it is not a painful incident you are dealing with it. Prevention is paramount for long term success. Neglecting this disease when it appears to be in remission eventually will destroy your joints, possibly permanently. Not to mention, the same problems that usually cause gout, also cause other more serious diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

If you have gout, visit your doctor and to talk about all the options available to you so you can prevent and treat this disease. The treatments you and your physician come up with may be different than someone you know who has gout. Depending on whether your gout is caused by too much uric acid creation or your inability to properly metabolize uric acid will determine what type of medication you use should you choose to go that route. Your physician will do a simple blood test to figure out which case you belong to. Even if you choose not to use medicine to fix your problem, you should still know what your uric acid levels are as a starting point to see how your methods are working for you so you can decide if you need to change course. Just because you have a gout attack after trying these gout remedies does not necessarily mean these remedies will not work for you, it takes time. In fact, if you use allopurinol, most physicians will give you an anti-inflammatory medication such as indocin because you will likely have an attack until the medication starts to work. This is not uncommon in many cures for gout. It simply takes time to help alleviate the underlying causes.

Gout Cures|Fish Oil

3 Ways Fish Oil Helps Get Rid of Gout

This blog is dedicated to finding natural gout cures you can use to help you overcome painful attacks. One of the best ways to do this is to take a supplement of fish oil. Fish oil is a great natural remedy for gout pain for a variety of reasons.

Today, we will discuss 3 of them.

Fish oil reduces swelling

Fish oil has been found to be as effective as ibuprofen and aleve for reducing swelling in joints. Most of gout pain comes from the swelling in your joints. By reducing this swelling, you can reduce your painful gout symptoms.

Fish oil is great for your heart

Fish oil has long been noted to be beneficial in helping prevent or slow down heart disease. I personally used a fish oil supplement every day long before I found out it can help with gout.

By increasing the health of your heart, you will be more likely to exercise more often and reduce your weight. Seeing how being overweight is a major problem among gout patients, fish oil can be beneficial. Also, gout sufferers are at a higher risk of heart disease due to usually being overweight.

I highly recommend that you don't go to just any store and get fish oil. Lower grade fish oil can contain metals so you will want to get a higher grade distilled fish oil that gets the metals out of the oil.

As for whether you should take a liquid versus capsule it is a personal choice. I personally take a capsule. If you wish to take the liquid but are not thrilled with sucking down the oil, Carlson's has a high quality fish oil that has lemon flavoring added to it to help you get it down.

A great resource for other useful supplements that help with reducing swelling can be found at alternative cures. Terry has a great blog on alternative methods of curing diseases and has a link on the post to a place you can get high quality health supplements.

Lastly,

Fish Oil helps heal damaged joints

Again, gout patients tend to be overweight and the excess weight, plus the multiple episodes of gout attacks can destroy your joints.

Fish oil has been found to help heal damaged joints which will enable you to exercise and lose weight. Be sure to see your physician before you start exercising.

Give fish oil a try. I use it every day.

Natural Remedies for Gout

Natural Remedies for Gout Anyone Can Follow

If you are like me, you have a desire to get off gout medication while still avoiding painful gout attacks. I accomplish this by using gout cures that I have found from natural sources . I am a former user of allopurinol. I decided I no longer wanted to use it when I discovered that one of the possible side effects of allopurinol is possible liver damage. I also wanted to avoid taking Indocin or colchicine whenever I had an episode of gout (hyperuricemia). I began searching for natural remedies for gout I could count on to help me avoid painful gout attacks without the potentially dangerous side effects. The following natural remedies for gout treatments worked for me.

Natural Gout Remedies Suggestions

Cherries

Yes, I know, pretty much everyone knows about using cherries for gout, but I do want to mention that I do take a cherry juice concentrate as the main supplement in my gout treatments program. I specifically use Michelle's Montmorency Cherry Juice Concentrate. It is a bit costly, but it is like gold to me. I have no affiliation with this product, but I assure you from experience, it works! Michelle's products are from Michigan, not too terribly far from where I live. Michigan is a huge cherry producing state. Needless to say, I take advantage of living near the overabundance of fresh cherries whenever they are in season. As for the Michele's cherry juice products, if you prefer, you can get this product in capsules versus the concentrate. These are naturally produced products and you can usually get them at your local holistic food store.

Potassium rich foods

Potassium-rich foods are great natural remedies for gout that are critical to overcoming your battle with this painful disease. Potassium helps to liquefy uric acid making it easier for the kidneys to eliminate the uric acid during urination. The RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for potassium is 3500mg a day. So, what are a few of the foods rich in potassium?

Bananas
Cantaloupes
Peaches
Yams
Baked Potatoes, with the skin
Carrots

In another post about gout treatments, I mentioned on that if you lose weight, you must lose it slowly or it increases your uric acid levels. One of the reasons for this is that if you lose weight too rapidly, you decrease your potassium levels too quickly which makes it harder for the kidneys to get rid of your uric acid. Go slow!

Water

Gout pain is caused by too much crystallization of uric acid in your joints. Water helps to dissolve those crystals so the kidneys can process them properly. It is for this reason that drinking a lot of water is a important part of any natural remedies for gout plan. If you feel gout symptoms beginning to rear their ugly head, a quick remedy is to drink plenty of water.

Fish Oil

I use supplements for this. Occasionally, I will eat salmon, however, salmon is high in purines and must be eaten in moderation. Trout and sardines are also considered high purine foods. Because of the high purines found in these types of fish, I consider fish oil to be part of my natural remedies for gout therapy even though it is a supplement.

Fish oil is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, in some scientific studies, fish oil was found to have the same benefit as NSAIDs (i.e. Indocin, Ibuprofen, Aleve) without the potentially harmful side effects. My physician stated we should be taking 5000mg (5g) a day. I recommend using a high grade distilled fish oil as some of the lower quality fish oils have small traces of metals in them.

It is worth noting that fish oil is also recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a therapeutic help in the fight against heart disease. Make sure you have a minimum of 300mg of EPA and 200mg of DHA in your fish oil.

These natural gout remedies enabled me to wean myself off of allopurinol. I made my physician part of the process, and I recommend you do as well. These natural remedies for gout have helped me be virtually gout free for three years.

Natural remedies for gout are easy to follow when used wisely. The benefit of the natural remedies for gout method is not only does it help you beat gout, you also lower your weight and decrease your risk for dangerous health issues such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol, and heart attack. Give these natural remedies for gout a try.
